Based in New York City, Darshan Gress is a stylist who lends her intuitive eye to match her clients needs, budgets and demands. Whether working with a celebrity to infuse their personal style with the latest fashion trend or incorporating her own vision and fresh style into a runway show, she is known for having "a combination of creativity, vision, and attention to detail that is unparalleled in the fashion industry according to Mark Schaaf, Neiman Marcus Fashion Presentation Director. Born and raised in Virginia, Darshan moved to NYC shortly after graduating high school to attend F.I.T. There she got her feet wet in the fashion industry and had the opportunity to get her first taste of styling as an intern at VH-1s wardrobe department. Shortly after her time at VH-1, Darshan launched her professional career by styling an ad campaign that would be seen on NYC billboards and in nationally circulated magazines, such as Marie Claire. Throughout the next year Darshan gained a list of regular clients in television, editorial, and retail, many of whom she continues to work with. Seeing Darshans talent, Nordstrom began booking her to both produce and style fashion shows. Within a year, Darshan was asked to relocate and join the Nordstrom Corporate Fashion Office as the youngest fulltime stylist in the companys history. During her time at Nordstrom, she collaborated with publications, such as Vogue, to style and direct trend-driven fashion shows as well as launch new collections like the American debut of Chloe, with Stella McCartney as head designer. Although Darshan valued her experience at Nordstrom, she realized that she needed to return to New York in order to achieve her goals as a fashion stylist. Back in NYC, Dashan picked up where she left off as a freelancer. She quickily became favored as a market editor and stylist for various magazines. In 2000, she left freelancing once again to become a fulltime stylist at MTV and MTV2. At MTV she started to make a name for herself as she worked with celebrity talent for programming such as TRL and the MTV Music Awards, and appeared on air to talk about the latest trends and do guest makeovers. Publications such as People Magazine and Entertainment Weekly started to call Darshan to add insight as a style expert on the dos and donts of what celebs were wearing. After almost three years Darshan made another career decision and left MTV. Since fall of 2002, Darshan has traveled to Paris, Canada, Las Vegas and other destinations, dressing recording artists, styling celebrities and working on couture runway shows like Alexander McQueen for Neiman Marcus. As a result of Darshans wide range of experiences, she has built a versatile portfolio and broad range of styling capabilities. She has worked with actors like Alan Cumming, dressed pop stars like Michelle Branch, and styled top models for the runway. She is skilled at creating images and a style that can be seen throughout a project and, although she thrives on knowing the latest fashion forward trends, she has a way of interpreting them to match her clients needs (all while staying within their wide-ranging budgets). She pulls such a great assortment of clothing and accessories that are always appropriate for the assignment says Susan Bauer, Fashion Director of MTV. Darshan remains loyal to clients, such as MTV, who continue to call her for freelance jobs, while working to build long-lasting professional relationships. Darshan's organizational skills and attention to detail make her a valuable asset to any team, said Gina LaMorte, founder of Styleemergency.com. Darshan values the lessons she has gained as a stylist and believes in the importance of sharing those. Despite her hectic schedule, she finds time to speak in high school and college classes on the value of setting professional and personal goals. |
